Ground Staff

The ground staff is the people who work on the ground to support the operation of an airport. They may be responsible for directing aircraft on the runway, loading & unloading luggage and cargo, or providing general assistance to passengers. Some ground staff also work in air traffic control, monitoring aircraft movements and providing instructions to pilots.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Issue instructions to passengers on the ramp, loading, and unloading of aircraft
  • Assist passengers with boarding or deplaning, or with navigating the airport terminal
  • Maintain communications with ground crew members and other departments
  • Monitor the ramp area and ensure that aircraft are safely loaded and ready for departure

Qualification and Experience:

The position tends to be filled by candidates with some experience in aviation. They are usually graduates of a vocational course at high school or an apprenticeship scheme. Have a clean driving record and pass a criminal background check.

Airport Manager

  • Responsible for ensuring the airport is in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Performs operational tasks of the airport
  • Oversees the safety, security, and efficiency of the airport
  • Coordinates with Air Traffic Control to ensure aircraft operations are safe and efficient
  • Maintains close communication with air traffic control tower personnel and air traffic controllers to avoid delays when landings and takeoffs occur
